Description

We've had this set of one teacup, one saucer, and one bread & butter plate in our family for over half a century. The design features green bamboo with two small flying birds that are brown & white with a touch of blue. The china pieces are edged in gold, as well as gold highlighting the bamboo. Both the matching plate & saucer are marked underneath in blue with "Hand Painted" a shield with "K S", and "MADE IN OCCUPIED JAPAN". The cup has no mark, however on the bottom inside of the cup there is a bas-relief image of the face of a Japanese woman (a Geisha?). The most striking feature is that when the cup is empty and held up to the light, the face is illuminated in a three-dimensional manner.
