Tinplate depiciting Maori portraits and New Zealand scenes

Iles, Arthur James 1870-1943 :Maggie & Bella, Rotorua guides. Published for Iles, Rotorua, by George Hadfield, Wellington, N.Z. [ca 1900-1920]

Reference Number: Curios-013-003-1

Shows a head and shoulders double portrait of Rotorua guides Maggie Papakura and Bella Te Hoari Papakura, in traditional Maori costume (feather cloaks, huia feather in the hair, tiki pendants). The rim decoration shows Lake Taupo, Lake Rotorua, Lake Manapouri, Lake Wanaka, and four other Maori portraits. The original photographic portrait was taken by Arthur Iles, Rotorua photographer.

History
Sophia plate has 1930 date hand written and also names & New Zealand locations are handwritten on same plate. Writing is very faint & hard to make out due to age. Found these at an estate sale approx. in year 2001
