Hello Zlax45,

Growing up  in Japan my mother purchased a set of these which we still have today after40 yrs.

what your looking at is the mamma- san and pappa -san working the fields or carrying water buckets which your missing.

The buckets had a piece of tied leather which hung on the ends of the lumber wich you are asking about..

The four buckets was the white  Porcelain with white colored leather. Hope this info helped you out ? I will send a pic .
