Picked this up at a garage sale a few years ago. It looked unique to me and I had never seen red glass like it before. Im not sure if this set is worth anything or not but I'm really just interested in finding out who made it and the time period it's from. I dont see any obvious markings or stamps besides the initials M.A. which appears to be carved into the glass and only on a couple of the pieces which leads me to believe that this was done by a previous owner? However on a couple of the pieces if you look at the bottom in a certain light it looks like there may be some kind of circle marking and maybe some Asian characters along the bottom Ridge of the saucers. I will try and get a good picture. I have looked for info on this set before and it looks similar to some Murano sets that I was able to find? But again I'm not sure at all about this stuff so please i hope someone can tell me something about it. The glass is a beautiful red color. The handpainted flowers are raised giving it a 3d look i guess. Also there is shiny gold (leaf?)trim along the rim of the cups and saucers as well as the handles on the cups. The other gold is more of a matte finish around the outside of the cups and the inner part of the saucers. Sorry I don't know the technical terms here. Unfortunately I seem to have lost the teapot because it was not in the box that it should have been in with the rest of the set which is a bummer because I'm pretty sure that it is the most important part of any teaset. I'm hoping that it is floating around somewhere but who knows. There also used to be a matching ashtray but during one of the times I moved it was dropped by the movers who moved my things and it broke. Not sure if that info is relevant but I'm just trying to give as much detail as I can.
Re: Unknown Glassware (tea set)
Hello,
What a lucky find at the garage sale! I would LOVE to own this gorgeous set! I believe what you have here is part of a set, if not the whole set of a Murano Ruby Red with gold trim and flowers tea set. I've tried researching the M.A. at the bottom and this is probably the maker's mark. Murano glass has a distinctive bottom called a pontil mark or scar where the glass blower snapped off of the metal rod. There are many fakes out there. Here is a link that will help you tell whether yours is an original Murano, or one of the mass produced. http://www.ebay.com/gds/Murano-Art-Glass-how-do-I-tell-if-it-is-Fake-/1…
Let us know what price you put on your set! Here's a 16 piece set that is up for sale on Ebay now. http://www.ebay.com/itm/RARE-MURANO-Glass-16-piece-Ruby-Red-W-Gold-Trim…

Re: Unknown Glassware (tea set)
Thank you so much for replying to my post. I wasn't able to find the teapot, 2 saucers and 1 cup....so I have an almost complete set. (5 cups, 4 saucers, sugar holder with lid, creamer/milk holder, and the lid for the teapot) I am going to try and sell this incomplete set for probably less than $150. Anybody interested let me know. I am open to offers.
