By MasonK, 25 June, 2008
Description

I have been holding onto this item for many years now and only been able to find one other like it on the web and its located in the Power House Museum in Australia.

This unopened tin of tea formed part of the supplies taken on the ship 'Discovery' during Captain Robert Falcon Scott's British National Antarctic Expedition of 1901-1904.

The label stuck onto the top of the tin reads, from what I can make of it

“X”=Unknown Text

XXX XXX XXXhas been Specially XXXcted and Packed by TOWER TEA Ltd. for the National Antarctic Expedition 1901.

This tin is hermetically sealed. To open raise this paper and cut round the circle with penknife or and sharp tool.

History
I received this item many years ago from a retired fire fighter, who has said his great uncle had received it from a historian fiend that work in a ship yard back in the early 30’s but that’s where the info stops, the box was just sitting in a foot chest for the approximately 20+yrs until I received it.
