..... thanks for your time sir on stating the obvious.... but I was really inquiring on some history or anything about it and if infact what I stated about my inheritated item is actually correct being as im new to this whole thing ... again, thanks for your time.

Yes, it does indeed look like you have exactly what you wrote.
Har to tell exactly what type you have as the point of the knife isn't in the photo, but looks like a hospital corps knife. Does it look anything like this: https://forums.gunboards.com/showthread.php?349727-USMC-machete or does it have a sharper point?
