I asked my mother about this and she tells me it's hard to read because of so many different styles of japanese characters. My mother grew up in Japan and married my american father around 40 years ago. Anyways she says it looks like the name of KYU YA KOSAN or KYU TANI KOYAMA also she did mention something about a sun and moon symbols but wasn't sure. I guess it's like trying to read Shakespere as oppsed to todays language if you can understand. Hope this helps.

my mother spoke with her Japanese friend and said that rightside character is kouya and leftside character is kousan = kouya kousan. don't know if this helps but thats all Ican find out.
