I am a collector of Trowbridge's works with over 30 of his original etchings and aquatints. There are several ways to tell an original from a copy. Is it signed in pencil by the artist? Does it have a title in pencil in the margin? For aquatints, are there index holes (very small) in the corners? Does it have a number/series notation (eg. 3/35)? Does it have the VT monogram? If it has all these then you probably have an original. "Reproofs" were made by Jacobi in the 1920's after failing eyesight prevented Trowbridge from continuing etching. These prints appear to have been ligthographed and are lower quality, often with colors apparently painted on the print after the fact. You should see the word "reproof" and perhaps Jacobi on the print. If you'd like a valuation I'd have to see the prints themselves..a digital image is OK...dimensions and condition. They are not terribly expensive on eBay or auction sites. Dealers are a different matter. John A Lakewood, WA
