Description According to the seller from whom I purchased this, it is an antique English sloped writing desk circa 1850. It is made from calamander wood and adorned with brass accents and cherub cartouche. There are two glass inkwells affixed to each side that measure 1.5” x 1.75”. The box opens to reveal a blue (velvet?) writing slope which lifts to reveal storage for writing supplies & documents. When opened, the writing surface measures 16” from front to back. There is a dome-shaped box that sits behind the writing slope that opens via a hinged lid to reveal small storage compartments. Like the outside of the writing slope, the stationary box is adorned with cherub cartouche and brass inlay. The dimensions of the entire sloped-writing desk are as follows: Width: 14”, Depth: 10.5”, Height (to top of dome): 9”. There is some obvious wear consistent with age: the blue felt is well used, the veneer is slightly splitting in back, the key that came with the desk does not seem to lock the stationary box, there are some tacks missing.
