Take this piece to a local jewlers, it will take them all of about 60 seconds to see if the stones are diamonds or not via an electronic test. If they are diamonds and not paste stones (it does seem to be above most costume jewelry quality from what I can tell without having it in person/other photos) it could be quite a valuable piece again if the stones are real.
