Vintage JC Penney's Foremost Denim Jacket

By Clovisguy, 19 August, 2009
Description

Hello all,

I just purchased this J. C. Penney's Foremost Denim Jacket at an Estate sale, I was told by a friend that this was probably made in the 1940s or 1950s. He also state that just a few of these were made under the J.C. Penney name. The Levi Strauss Co. stopped production of these soon after and decided to market these on their own. As you can see the J.C. Penny Logo is stamped on the buttons. The Penney's Foremost Production Tag is still attached and very Legible on the inside of the jacket. Overall the jacket is in excellent shape. There are no rips, tears, stains, or holes. The color is also a nice indigo blue.

My friend has no idea what this is worth, being that this is the ONLY one he's seen with the ONE POCKET style.

Please feel free to leave comments. I have tons of pictures that can be viewed upon request.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Re: Vintage JC Penney's Foremost Denim Jacket

The jacket looks similar to the style that Levis produced in the 1950s to early 60's. The style in reference is called 506xx and has the same look as your jacket except the back has a buckle and bronze clasps.

Another style of jacket called a 507xx had the same front style but with 2 pockets instead of one. We sold a grade 3 jacket like this on ebay for $180.00. A mint condition is now selling for about $400-600. One seller is asking $1200 for it.

You might want to look at ebay listings for a 507xx second edition with pleats and you will see the similarities.

I can't say that your jacket will fetch the same price since it does not have the Levis label. Hope that helps!
