Vintage Rustic/ranch/cowboy Quartersawn Oak Step End Tables

By SDSusanL, 28 March, 2025
Description

This pair of vintage side tables would be right at home on someone's ranch/farm/or cabin in the woods. They are in good overall shape, but have some surface wear, along with the unfortunate bleached spot, most likely from a spilled beverage. There is no maker's mark that I can see. Possibly home or craftsman made. I'd appreciate any information. If I had a cabin in the woods, I'd be keeping these :)

Vintage Rustic/Ranch/Cowboy Quartersawn Oak Step End Tables

Description:
This pair of handcrafted rustic side tables features a charming and utilitarian "step" design, common in mid-century and western Americana styling. Crafted from quartersawn oak, the tables display distinctive ray flake patterns and pronounced grain, indicating quality wood. The carved edges and slightly whimsical leg design further enhance their rustic charm.

Construction & Craftsmanship:

  • Handmade or small-scale production; no manufacturer's mark visible.
  • Quartersawn oak used for durability and visual appeal.
  • Pegged joinery and visible wear patterns suggest age and genuine use, likely crafted between the 1960s–1970s.
  • Edge detailing (notched or scalloped) adds folk-art character—often seen in Western or cabin-style furniture.

Condition:

  • Structurally sound with some surface wear, including a bleached spot on one table (likely from sun or liquid exposure).
  • Excellent candidate for minor restoration or could be left as-is for authentic rustic charm.

Estimated Value (Retail):

  • $250–$400 for the pair in their current condition.
  • If restored (refinished and spot treated): $400–$600, particularly in mountain lodge, ranch-style, or rustic décor markets.

Selling Tips:

  • Highlight the quartersawn oak and handcrafted details.
  • Use keywords like rustic, cabin décor, Western Americana, craftsman-made, and folk art furniture.
  • Ideal buyers may include decorators, collectors, and those furnishing themed Airbnbs or cabins.

Professional Appraisal Recommendation:
These tables are not of museum-grade or high-profile maker value, so a full professional appraisal may not be necessary unless selling at a curated auction. However, for insurance or high-end consignment, consider contacting a regional appraiser specializing in 20th-century American rustic furniture or Western collectibles.
