Re: Vintage Uchikake Japanese Wedding Kimono Coat
Hi There-
I have been working with vintage Japanese kimonos for about 15 years - see my website at www.bridalkimono.com or www.kyotokimon.com so I am familiar with these. This is an uchikake style wedding kimono (there are four main types), and it looks to be contemporary, from 1960-80. They are indeed quite expensive (usually hand-embroidered) so most Japanese brides rent rather than buy theirs. The rental itself can be thousands of dollars, but it may include all of the layers that go underneath the uchikake, the wig, the accessories, etc. But when these rental go out of season, they appear at the markets and can be purchased at a reasonable price.
I sell these for $500-$750 normally, depending on condition, pattern, age, etc. If you'd like any other info feel free to contact me at [email protected].
Hope you plan to display it!
Nancy
