Description

I purchased these salt and pepper shakers from a retirement community yard sale.

I haven't been able to find anything like them from searching the marking "Italy WA"

One shaker has 4 holes on top, the other has 1 hole.

The entire bottom screws off, and inside there are small plastic cylinders I'm guessing for containing the salt/pepper.

These shakers are extremely heavy for their size.

They also came with an old cardboard display box.

Category Metalware
Medium Gold Plated possibly?
Distinguishing marks Marked with shield and crown "Italy" "WA"
Condition Good
Size and dimensions of this item less than 2" tall
Date Period unknown
Weight very heavy for size
History Know nothing about item. Believe they are salt and pepper shakers. Bought at retirement community yard sale.
Price Paid (If known) $1.50 at yard sale

I also have this set of heavy gold(?) egg shaped salt and pepper shakers with the identical markings on the botton. They were a wedding gift almost 50 years ago.they are shiny,no discoloration.Hoping the Italy marking is a good sign .Have you found out what the marking ..fancy script of "WA" and the crown along with Italy mark stand for tha WA must be a makers mark.Anybody have any suggestions?! Thanks, mary Eldridge

Generally if there is no discoloration on pieces like this they've been gold plated, brass and bronze example will tarnish even in a closed box. I don't have any information on the marking, but based on the images it's doubtful these predate the 1970's. These are the kind of things that often go as part of box lots for less than $10.00 at auctions.
