Description

Waterbury, Willard No. 3.  8-day spring-driven time and strike clock. Tran Duy Ly's book on Waterbury clocks shows an example of this clock for 1906. Waterbury made several banjos in this style, but (in my opinion) this is one of their nicest. The bottom finial came off and is located in lower box (See pix). The top finial should be a ball and spire. After a 1957 Earthquake in SF Cal, I remember my Dad replacing the original with this Eagle. The correct top (and bottom replacement) finial can be found throughout various online clock repair sites. The clock also survived the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake that rattled the SF Bay Area. That shaker caused the pendulum to fall off causing a small chip in the porcelain Waterbury Logo plate which is located in lower box.

This has been in the family for many decades. It is ORIGINAL, and has NOT been refurbished nor is it a reproduction model. My parents owned it long before I was born and I've been winding it for the last fifty years. It is in good operating condition and chimes regularly on the half, and hour. The only indicators this clock has ever been serviced (other than an occasional light oiling) is inscribed inside lower box. Dates are 1/32 and 2/32 proceeded by ETT-Clean followed by a number. I am assuming that was some sort of license or invoice number.

The clock has an 8 ½" porcelain dial and measures 42½ inches in height.

Any and all appraisal feedback is most appreciated.

Thank You for looking.
