This item was purchased at an estate sale in Pennsylavania. I have not been able to identify the artist by the initals MB. The closest I've gotten was Moses Laurence Blumenthal who lived in Pennsylvania and did alot of magazine work. His signature is a MB in a circle. there is a similarity in the way he signs and this signature in that the M and B use a common line. I would date this painting just by its look in his time period of 1879-19? but it doesn't seem to fit his style. I believe the frame is original. The painting has obvious damage. A hole was punched through the bottom and has lost some paint, it also has dirt and scratches and the frame has seen better days. Its a basic picture of a boat sailing past land and the waves are crashing on a rock and sea gulls are flying all around. The title is "Where Waves like mountains Roll".
The information on the back is on Hirshberg Art Company Label.
