French, purchased at an auction in Quebec in 1996. I am suspicious of the age because it was bought at auction in Quebec from an auctioneer who imported shipping containers of antiques from France. Top of trunk is wood--type unknown--and some kind of cover. The green and gold cover seems to be some kind of linoleum or some other material. The brass hardware is unique and has a sun-king type of logo. I have never seen this logo before.
