William Comyns silver magnifying glass

By pete huskins, 5 August, 2014
Description

I inhereted this magnifying glass from my great aunt about 25 years ago. It has been in storage ever since hence its tarnished condition. I am no silver expert so I was reluctant to clean it without professional instruction. From the hallmarks I believe its from 1896 and made by William Comyns. There were several date letter "A"s on the site I refered to but this was the closest and as she was born in 1900 this made sense to me. If you would like me to clean the object and take more pictures thats fine, I would just want instruction. Thats about all I know, at the time of my aunts passing, as now, antique silver wasnt of great interest so if you can at least fill in any gaps or mistakes Id be grateful. Pete
