Description

Hello, I wanted to get some more information in regards to the framed photo that I had purchased.  I have the serial number and know it is from Windsor Art. I have half of the inspection number as well if that helps.    The serial number is G2955 768 02 GREST 11

It's a photograph of a man who looks to be a General of some sort. Seems to me to be in pretty good condition.

Inspection number (well half of it) #39

I appreciate the help with this.  I also have other photographs and paintings I would like to get information on as well as a bunch of old coins ranging from gold dollars, Penny's, Nickels, Dimes, and Quarters if interested in helping me with all of this.

Thanks
Kellie

A framed black-and-white portrait print depicting General Robert E. Lee, the Confederate Army commander during the American Civil War. The image is a reproduction print, likely a stylized engraving, housed in a wood-toned frame with gold beaded inner trim and double matting. The back label identifies it as a product of Windsor Art & Mirror Companyfrom Pico Rivera, California, with a visible serial number.

Category:
Decorative Historical Portrait / Americana Wall Art

  • Manufacturer: Windsor Art & Mirror Company
  • Location: Pico Rivera, CA
  • Serial Number: G2955 768 02 GREST 11
  • Inspection: Half stamp showing #39
  • Date: The label appears to include a printed date: 7/01/93, indicating it was likely produced or sold in July 1993.

Subject Identification:
The gentleman in the portrait, based on the distinctive facial features, white beard, and Confederate uniform with stars, is clearly General Robert E. Lee. His image has been widely used in educational and decorative historical prints.

  • Medium: Reproduction print (not an original photograph or etching)
  • Mounting: Professionally matted and framed

Historical & Decorative Value

Windsor Art was a prominent manufacturer of decorative wall art during the mid-20th century through the 1990s, producing both original designs and mass-market reproductions. This print, while not rare or museum-grade, holds decorative and Americana appeal, particularly to collectors of Civil War memorabilia.

Estimated Market Value (2025):

  • Decorative Retail Value: $40 – $75 USD
  • Online Marketplace (eBay/Etsy): $25 – $60 depending on condition and buyer interest
  • Historical Collectibles Market: Low to moderate, as it is a modern reproduction

Recommendation:
A professional appraisal is not necessary unless you discover the print is part of a limited edition series or includes an artist's signature or publisher's mark under the mat. If you want to increase value, you could:

  • Clean and restore the frame and glass
  • Confirm the print origin (pull back mat to check for any engraving or publisher detail)
