Description SMALLER SIZE ICE BOX, SOME FAMILY MEMBERS SAID IT HAS THE SKELETON KEY LOCK ON IT BECAUSE IT WAS USED IN A HOSPITAL OR PHARMACEUTICAL SETTING. CANNOT FIND ANY MARKINGS ON IT, IT DOES LOOK LIKE IT HAD ROLLERS ON THE LEGS AT ONE TIME. FINISH HAS A WONDERFUL PATINA AND LOOKS TO BE ORIGINAL. WOULD LOVE TO HEAR FROM ANYONE WHO MAY KNOW MORE ABOUT WHY THIS ICE BOX HAS A KEYED LOCK AND IS SMALLER THAN MOST.

Ice boxes like this date from the turn of the 19th Century. They were in high demand at one time during the whole "golden oak" phase the country went through during the 1980's, demand peaking in value during the early 1990's. Today demand for these pieces has slipped somewhat, comparables often sell at auction for under $300.00. Lovejoy
