Description Centered in the middle of the picture it says "Janosik." At bottom right it says W.T. Benda. We're afraid to open it up because we don't want to mess it up. So we don't know if it could be the original or just a print. But we would really appreciate an appraisal for both. Please email me at [email protected] if you have any info. Thank you very much for your assistance.

Here's a link regarding the Artist: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/W%C5%82adys%C5%82aw_T._Benda Unfortunately nobody can tell much about the piece while it's still in the frame, it might even be a magazine cover: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/1939-KOSCIUSZKO-FOUNDATION-BALL-Night-Tatras-/360145087669?cmd=ViewItem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item53da51ecb5

Looks like the frame is original and might have been designed and made by Benda himself. Benda's illustrations have sold at auction from $300 to $4000. His famous and, now rare, masks have sold at auction for $6000. Here's a great link of a short subject by Pathe of Benda in his studio showing off his masks: http://www.britishpathe.com/record.php?id=28848
