Vase with Tiger and Cave Carved in Front

By blkopic, 10 August, 2011
Description

This vase is glazed everywhere except the front.  The front is carved with a tiger inside a cave. each side has a ring handle. I have looked and looked and can't find anything even remotely like it.  I would appreciate anything anybody can tell me about this.  Is it just junk or is it something rare?  I know the photos aren't very good.  I can get clearer ones if it will help.

Re: Vase with Tiger and Cave Carved in Front

Are there any markings on it? If so please post some images of the marks and I'll see what I can find.

Nope, no visible marks.  The bottom of the vase is glazed consistent with the back and sides. Thanks for the reply!

Re: Vase with Tiger and Cave Carved in Front

I have the exact same vase. My mother is 77 yrs old and she got it from her Aunt

who got it from her grandmother. Could very well be over 1oo yrs old. It has no markings either to identify artist. I will send pics when I figure out how or e-mail them to your private e-mail. They are very very similer , but I can see suttle differences between yours and mine. I have only just started doing research on this.

Please let me know if you found any other info. Strange how so much detail went into these 2 vases and how they are so close in simularity
