Description
I picked up a old photograph in an antique store. It appears to be Madame Sophie, King Loius xv daughter. It is a black and white sepia color. It appears very old, thin and brittle. It has some weird pinkish color painted on her lips and the bows of her dress. And another color painted to shadow her neck and other little areas. Someone pasted an old newspaper on the back of it. The date of the newspaper appears to be from 1924. And the bottom right hand corner is embossed some of the letters are hard to read as they are faded:
M AD, BRAUN E CO (OR CIE)
BRAUN CLEMENT E CO (OR CIE) SUCC can't read the rest
It was in an old frame the back is in pieces.
Re: madame sophia photograph
Does anyone have any info on this item. I tried to look up but found nothing on it. I would love to know what it's worth and then maybe I'd sell it.
Re: madame sophia photograph
Painting by Jean-Marc Nattier , hangs in the Palace of Versailles. There is a print for sale on ebay from the 30's for $38.00 in mint condition.
Re: madame sophia photograph
I read that as well. This is a very very old photo that is embossed by Braun Clement studio I believe it's a reproduction, and it's from before 1924. It has some hand painted accents on it, I really hope someone has some interesting info on it, I was excited to find something so old and apart of history. Thanks for the info on Jean Marc Nattier Kathy.
Re: madame sophia photograph
Have you read this?
"Braun Clément & Cie was the final manifestation of a photography studio formed byJean Adolphe Braun (1812–1877), a designer of decorative arts such as textiles, porcelain, and wallpaper. Braun took up photography in the early 1850s and exhibited at the Exposition Universelle of 1855. Braun's work realized almost instant acclaim and he quickly became one of the preeminent photographers of his day. By 1859, working under the firm name Ad. Braun, he had specialized in landscapes and stereographs and soon amassed a catalog of over 6,000 images. Although the reproduction of works of art had become the firm's specialty by 1883, it also continued to produce views taken around the world. Over the years the firm went through several name changes before becoming Braun Clément & Cie in 1889."
