Description
I have a Glass Telegraph Insulator that my mother picked up sometime in the '70's when the telephone companies were upgrading to ceramiv insulators. It looks exactly like one that would've been used during the 1860's for the telegraph system. It has 'MADE IN USA' engraved on one side and 'WHITALL TATUM CO. N' engraved on the other. Was wondering if it might be worth anything today...
Re: Glass Telegraph Insulator
Anything marked with a full country of origin such as "Made in USA" generally postdates the early 1920's. Whitall Tatum entered the insulator manufacturing market in 1922, mass-producing them for use on power and communications lines across the country. Armstrong Cork Corporation purchased Whitall-Tatum in 1938, continuing insulator production under the Armstrong trademark. Production continued after a 1969 purchase by Kerr Glass Manufacturing Co. until about 1976. Value for yours , here you go ;~)
