Brass Dinosaur Statues

By allym7226, 23 July, 2013
Description

Four brass dinosaur statues. Very old, as they belonged to my Grandfather. I am looking to find their value. They each have small letters on the bottom of them. Any help is appreciated.

Re: Brass Dinosaur Statues

Detail is very important so in regards for a more accuarate appraisal I would submit:

1. What are the letters at the bottom? That could help determine the maker, some makers have more value than others. I would really want to know that myself.

With that being said the main attraction to the item is that it is made out brass, which is often times manipulated to look older as older brass looks more attractive as it gives items a more rustic value. However, I am sure that these are aged truly, and the brass faded over time. In the market unless an item has a historic value, or is made by a famous blacksmith this item is currently moderately valued.

So what we're looking at is that a brand new set similar to your set, but made that year sold for 250 on Etsy. However, in 2009 at Boston's Skinner Auction House, a large Persian brass tray on a stand sold for $267 (as it was verified to be over 100 years old and as such is classified as an antique).

Given this set has yet to be dated, newer set with fresh brass goes for 200-250. I would price this item at between 120.00-150.00 at an auction or retail sale, less at an estate sell, perhaps more from a personal sale. I can't give more of the histroy without being able to know the manufacter or the maker. Hope this helps.

Sincerely,

James Tyler Boyd
