"Sabre" is a brand mark used by Cole National Corp from the '60's to I believe the '80's.
They didn't manufacture knives, they imported them from Japan and Germany. As well as buying them from American knife companies such as Schrade and Camillus.
These "Original Bowie" knives sell around $10 to $20
You have a cool knife, Not worth a lot. but still cool. you didn't give the size. The real Bowie blades sell from $10.00 to $100.+ The real Bowies have numbers like W49 A thru.K letters stand for what year it was made. some say Western or Colo. so many diff things to concider when buying and selling Bowies...... your knife looks like the handle was replaces at one time.. and blade guard is small................. Be careful there are some state laws that don't allow the carring of the Bowies...
The only law in my state that I have found is that it cannot be concealed. I'm 16 so I carry it when I'm on a walk and things like that. Thank you all for the info and yes the handle was replaced. My grandpa made it. The knife was his 1st Bowie and now my 1st.

Re: Japan made, "Original Bowie Knife"
The number 23 on the knife under Japan, Does that mean that it is the 23 knife of this type ever made?
Re: Japan made, "Original Bowie Knife"
No. It is an item model number. There were probably tens of thousands if not more made.
