Please let me know if you still have the helmet available.  I would be interested in acquiring the helmet for Joe Savoie's surviving son.  Please contact me at david.john.edwards AT gmail.com (email written that way to prevent spam).  Thank you!

Serial number 2?  Serial number 2 was damaged in a house fire in the early 70s, but then it was sold to a friend of mine who had the necessary repairs made.  The helmet was then used in the Gulf until about 1977.  The helmet was later taken to Idaho, where it remains to this day--as confirmed in a phone call moments ago.  Details of some of the helmet's history are covered on page 105 in the book "Cast a Deep Shadow" by Gary Harris (book is now out of print).

Somewhere there is a mistake--at least I hope this is an honest mistake and/or a misunderstanding on my part.  The ad mentions stainless steel, so perhaps Joe Savoie began this later series with serial number 1 again (hence there would also be a second #2), but if he didn't then there is a glaring inconsistency.  My friend's serial number 2 has the orignal fiberglass helmet section around which the rest of the helmet was fabricated.  For the record, the stainless steel series was initiated in 1971, not in the 1960s.

For those interested, on Amazon you can find a print for sale of Joe Savoie's patent application.  Just type in "Savoie Patent Print" for the search information.  You will see the date of the patent application there: November 21, 1967.
