Description Found this seafood/appetizer fork at a yard sale. On the front it says HOTEL HYGEIA and on the back is HOLMES & EDWARDS XIV. It also has the numbers 73 and 77 on the back. From what I've researched so far, I believe it is silver plated. I had never heard of this hotel and discovered there is quite a rich and interesting history to it! It was located next to Fort Monroe in Old Point Comfort, VA. Edgar Allen Poe and President James Monroe stayed there! The hotel was ordered to be torn down in 1902. Based on that and the Holmes & Edwards XIV , I think this is from somewhere around 1892.
