Silver Elephant Statue.

Description

The Elephant was brought back from India in the late 1800's. It is hand carved from Ebony wood with a pure silver overlay. One tusk is broken off as well as one ear cover

There is a pink stone on the front.

I have been told that inside the statue on top, which is suposed to be Ivory or gold, is a piece of Budda's fingernail or a fragment of his robe? I would love if somebody out there could tell me more about this item. Thanks to all.
