wood woven rocking chair

Appraisal complete
Description

My husband and I purchased this small rocker while on our honeymoon in Alton, Illinois almost 30 years ago and it was old then.  We were told by the antique shop owner that the chair had belonged to a Mississippi River boat captain.

The chair is in very good condition and rocks easily.  The seat is very obviously hand woven with some kind of wood vine - not cane.  It is very sturdy and can hold quite a bit of weight.  It sits lower to the ground like a sewing chair.

We are not sure of the age nor the value, and would appreciate your assistance.
