So, the story is that I was 8, an avid horsewoman and I wanted my own saddle. My father and I were at a yard sale in West Virginia and the lady had this saddle and one other. I offered her all of my allowance I'd saved at the time for the 2 saddles and a couple of things my dad threw in, so it was $15. Which means the saddle was $5.
The plan in my young mind was to have it restored so that I would have one of the most unique saddles around! We just never did it.
Someone who knew a bit about saddles once told me that they thought it was brought over by the Spanish and is close to being 300 years old. I have no idea... Have a look and see what you think.
stuffing is animal hair, tree appears to be wood, no makers marks anywhere that I can see
