Pewter Mark - Maltese Cross over Cloverleaf shape with "Fecit V C M"

Description

Trying to identify maker of a pewter piece with the mark described in the title. See pics also.

I have found many items listed on eBay that describe this mark, frequently identified as Virginia Metalcrafters. Others have objects that have this mark and also "Handmade in Portugal". I know that fecit means "made" or "made by" but I am not able to identify what maker is VCM. The only other mark on this object is a squiggly line with a circle on top (snake?)

Does anyone know with certainty who is the real pewtersmith that used this mark? I would like to determine if my object is an original or a reproduction.
