I have a gold ring from England with the markings R 1580 inside. It has one sapphire flanked by 2 small diamonds. Does anyone know what the markings mean and what it's worth?

Rings that have no gold content markings such as "18K" or hallmarks that indicate the same, need to be physically tested to determine the actual precious metal content. The stones too have to be examined for quality to determine value.
