Letter from President Washington

Description

A few years ago my grandparents gave me this frame with what appears to be an authentic letter from George Washington dated 1777. I am a bit skeptical of the letter because of the date however I am still excited to see what people have to say. Any knowledgeable information will be helpful.

The letter reads:

"H Quarters, Whitemarsh

11th Dec. 1777

Dr. Tyren,

The enclosed Gazette, published the 24th at Yorktown, will show you that it is the wish of Congress that the conciliatory handbills should have an unrestrained circulation.

G. Washington"
