Seeking an appraisal and desiring to sell this beautiful large batik art piece by artist Dior Vargas depicting the Emperor Hirohito.
Category Asian Art
Medium Batik on rice paper over board 13th Century dye technique in Japan.
Distinguishing marks Dior Vargas signature present.
Condition Mint
Size and dimensions of this item 60" X 38.5"
Date Period Early 1980's
History Mr. Vargas trained under Takeo Nakamura (one of four living masters at the time) and was the last person in the world to master this technique. Mr. Vargas died 5 or 6 years ago in California.
Price $170,000 OBO.
Price Paid (If known) Gifted to original owner and insured by Lloyds of London for $33,000 when initially purchased. $170,000 paid by second owner.
