1940's Japanese Geisha Doll

By lisamasters, 25 June, 2015
Description

I inherited the geisha doll from my mother-in-law. Her uncle sent it to her when he was stationed in Japan sometime during the 1940's. She's been stored in a box since the early 1980's. Considering the age, it's in excellent condition. The face and hands appear to be silk. I believe the face is hand painted as well as the fingers on her hands. Her legs are made up of layers of thin paper. She has a lute, which is also in excellent condition. I'm not sure if she's suppose to be holding it or if it is meant to be propped up next to her, but it seems to fit nicely in her arms. There's also a wood and glass case with a door on the front. It appears to be handmade as there is only one way to fit it together properly. She's on a wood stand and measures approximately 10.25" tall. On the bottom of her stand there's a white and red sticker that has the number 2 on it. This sticker covers another sticker, but I don't want to try and remove it in case it may tear.
