Black Vase with Face and Hoop Earrings

Description

This vase has been in our family since I can remember, which is 50 years.  I have seen family photos that it appears in prior to my birth.  There are no prominent markings that I can see.  I cannot find anything on line so I'm not sure if it's Asian or South American or other?

It is solid black and measures 9.5 inches high and 5 inches wide from handle/ear to handle/ear.  It is not a heavy piece and appears to made from clay maybe?

Unfortunately, this is all of the information I have on this piece.
