Brass Fish with Japanese Characters

Description

It was bought in China, I think in the 80s or early 90s, but maybe earlier. I believe it was claimed to be an antique, according to my grandmother who brought it from there.

I remember being told it may have been used as a paper weight & wax stamp/signature for a business or official? See the raised characters on the bottom.

It is very heavy, solid brass I'm pretty sure. It also fits in your hand in such a way (and is very sharp) that it feels like it could be used to defend yourself (hopefully not to be an aggressor).
