Vintage possible Royal connection George VI 1950 marked oak tray?

Appraisal complete
Description

Hi, I recently bought this tray as part of a lot and on closer inspection found G.R VI PI 1950 and a crown marked on the back.  Can anyone tell me if this does in fact have a Royal connection?  1950 is within the reign of King George VI but I'm not sure if this is Royal memorabilia or if the markings signify something completely different.

I'd be really grateful for any information
