Antique Etching of a Muskateer

Appraisal complete
Description

Hello, I have what I believe to be an etching? I do not think it is a painting. The artist seems to be Meissonier. The frame looks original. The date next to the signature i think says 1867.  What can you tell me about the artist and what this picture would bring at auction.

Thank You!

Ernest Messionier (1815-1891): a French classical painter of remarkable skill. An etching would have a mat and the plate impression would be present. This does not appear to be an etching, more likely an offset print that would make it quite common and nearly worthless. If it were an oil sketch, however, it would be quite rare and valuable though not as expensive as it might have been 20 years ago. Master works have dropped in recent years (except for a few “popular” painters e.g. Van Gogh).
