Description

Hello. I am looking to purchase old dining room set. Inside the buffet and china cabinet there is a stamp that says McLagan Grand Master Furniture. I think it is cherry wood but not 100% sure and not sure of the age either. I am enclosing pictures in the hopes that someone might know the period, the value and the quality of it. Thank you in advance.

It dates from the second quarter of the 20th century, it's most likely constructed of maple with walnut veneers. It's pretty typical of suites made during that period, designed to resemble original American Colonial or American Federal furniture. At auction comparable suites now go for uner $500.00.

Hi Lovejoy. Thanks for looking at the pictures and sharing your expertise and perspective on the set. The label affixed to the inside of the drawer of one of the cabinets interests me. It indicates a lesser known Canadian craftsman whose business was only in operation for a short period of time, from 1905 to 1930 I believe, in Stratford, Ontario.  I couldn't find much on George McLagan except that he made high quality solid wood furniture during that time period.  If anyone can tell me more, I would appreciate it. C.
