Description

100 year old - Japanese Satsuma Tea Set

Beautiful handpainted enameled with doble dragon.

From the Meijid period (1868-1912)

It was my grandmother's wedding gift in 1916 given by the President of Venezuela, Dictator Juan Vicente Gomez.

The set is yellowish pottery earthenware, has a fine crackle glaze, white slip work  and heavy gilding. It is also incrusted with mother of pearl.

The design is a highly detailed scene of Japanese warriors/samurais and a woman, intertwined with a dragon.

The inside of each cup is painted with a seated warrior/samurai. Each piece is completely different from the others. Each piece is signed on the bottom with Japanese symbols.
