Description

Greetings,

I have limited information on this doll. I purchased her some years ago on eBay. The previous owner had no information either. 

I am interested in the maker or artist who made her, time period she was created and if she is a geisha or maiko. 

 I have found similar dolls for sale. The most similar features are the eyes, facial features, pearl earrings/necklace, hands, pink sash/red waist belt, feet, kimono fabric/butterfly design, a double stuffed hem, hair/flower accessories and base. Yet the pose and its significance I have yet to find out its meaning. 

Some similar dolls state after WWll 1920-30 others state 1950-60.

Kazuko Spraull is the only artist associated with this doll design. 

 Any information would be greatly appreciated.

History Purchased 2 years ago on eBay. A few holes in the kimono. Face is brown from age but still stunning. Damage to left pinky. Fabric fading on sash and kimono sleeves now yellowish white used to be pale pink. Hair intact. Nailed to base. Kimono may be crepe silk with brocade obi. Never seen another doll with this pose. Saw one place state, geishas never express emotions only bite their kimono sleeve to express strong emotions.
