Two-Tiered Wood Carved Sideboard

Appraisal complete
Description

I recently purchased this on Craig’s List for $300 in upstate New York.

I immediately fell in love with it and purchased purely for its form only, not for any potential function (much to my husband’s chagrin)!

I would like to know a little about the piece and potential worth, thank you!

·         Two-tiered chest/sideboard/?

·         Extremely heavy (heaviest piece of furniture I have ever had to handle)

·         5’H x 4’W x 19”’D

·         Walnut/oak/mahogany? Dark brown finish with red undertones

·         Heavily carved with scrolls, crescent moons, etc.

·         Upper cabinet has one door, two shelves inside

·         Unusual 45 degree sides on the upper cabinet with balled finials pointing downward

·         Bottom cabinet has one large pull-out drawer, and two lower doors with 3 removable, sliding drawers/bins.

·         Has hammered dark (iron?) hardware

·         No markings or other demarcations other than faint chalk numbers on one drawer (see photo)

·         Two balled feet in front, two tapered legs in back.

·         Possibly Renaissance style?

Any insight you can provide is greatly appreciated.
