Pressback chairs date from the turn of the 19th Century and were made in huge numbers, just about every major furniture company made a line of them during the 1890's. Very few of them were ever marked by the company that made them. Values last peaked during the 1990's, both demand and value has declined greatly since then. Currently at auction pressbacks are selling for about $25.00 each

My Grandmother had a set of 4 of these identical chairs in rural Saskatchewan. The chairs were divided up between family members throughout western Canada. My Mother remembers them on the family farm when she was very young, she is now 91. We have one chair, and I have been searching for this chair pattern in Alberta to complete the set again.

There were hundreds of patterns, I must have refinished over a thousand pressbacks in my old shop and finding matching chair for a full set was difficult.

Yes it’s been an elusive search. I’ll be content to find one more chair, just to have a pair.
