Antique Flame Mahogany Seceretary with Hutch

Appraisal complete
Description

I just purchased this from a  neighbor who is downsizing. It needs some work, but it is an intact piece. Skeleton keys even work. I was told it dates to the 1830's--but I have my doubts now. In any event, I would love any input from those who know more about these items than I do. I know it's an American piece by the tiny engraved lock plates on the inside of the drawers. It's allegedly from Upstate NY. The dovetails seem to be handmade (but that's my opinion). And that hideous felt on the desk--rust colored. I guess it's original.

Anyone care to make a guess on maker or even the date built?

3 photos below. I have it in two pieces, though the dowels are there and it fits together nicely.
