antique Chinese porcelain piece

Description

Antique Chinese porcelain piece. I'm not sure of the original origin as it says Shanghai New York, but my grandmother was known to travel the country a lot. I know it's from at least the 1900s but may be even older.

I believe this to actually be a Chinese "ginger jar". These porcelain jars were used to store herbs. It was called a "guan" or jar. I don't know exact year, but it's possible that it's from the 40's since Shanghai was a commerce hub during that period of time. I don't know it's value, but I've seen very ornate collectible pieces sell from $40 to around $1,000 depending on rarity.
