The year 1976' = stamped on the stamp along with the name of the stamp - Federal Turkey Federation - Wild Turkey.
The National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) was created in 1973. The Wild Turkey stamp & print were both created to raise money for the group.
Russ Smiley was a fantastic artist & had done work with the NWTF prior to creating the stamp.
The NWTF state chapters issued the stamps prior to there ever having been any released for wild turkeys.
They are currently/still trying to get more states on board - to increase the funds raised each year for wild turkeys - research!
The U.S. Postal Service issued these stamps each year - Celebrating the success of state & federal governments impact(s) on wildlife conservation.
The reason they decided on a turkey is because it was the fastest and largest of game birds.
Here is a link to some information I have found seems to check out -- and my husband & I have cross-referenced with other sites/blogs /posting specific questions on the history of the stamp(s) & Print(s) ... & it lines up with the information we gathered so far. It is easier for you guys to be able to read it from this post. Otherwise, I would have to re-word it, which I am not bad at, however, it is written very well on this particular site & I do not know that I could say it better! :)

The link above is the history of wild turkey stamps, in general + some info on this particular stamp. I felt it was important to add it for anyone who would like an understanding of the significance of the entire series! From what we were told on 2 other sites/blogs, this history is significant to the value of this piece! ...
FUN FACT:
*The link below is a Mossy Oak link, however, I did not get this info from their site: Ironically, this year, Mossy Oak has created their own limited edition wild turkey print & stamp (Stamp Cost = $15.00) to support conservation efforts!
Mossy Oak is a popular camouflage brand who have a huge focus/impact on wildlife conservation! It is named : "A Mossy Oak Moment" - The painting is a reprint of a 1995/96' painting which also had a limited # produced!
*I believe my husband has a little more knowledge but not much - so please feel free to share any - big or small &/or ask questions -- We will try our best to answer them.
