Jewelry is very difficult to appraise online. It needs to be weighed and tested. The ring may have hallmarks indicating sterling silver (i.e. 925, a left facing lion, et al). Best to take it to a jeweler for testing. The stone may be black onyx, the jeweler can tell you. Sorry I couldn't be more help.
