Imbuia 6 drawer chest of drawers

By doody, 3 January, 2008
Description

I guess that the wood is imbuia (not 100% sure) but the piece is very heavy. The chest has 6 drawers, the top one with a lock (the key to which has long ago disappered). The handles look like brass. The front is carved and bow shaped and the feet are also carved. Above the feet there is a carved "Skirt". The sides are made of a much thinner wood (feels like stained plywood). There are no manufacturer's marks anywhere.

History
This item has been in our family for more than 60 years. I recently inherited it when my mother died. I live in South Africa but suspect that it may have been brought over from England when my grand parents immigrated here in the early 1900s.
